The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), in collaboration with Mapúa University, proudly invites you to the PAFIOO Masterclass on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN, at the Mapua Cinema, Mapua Makati, 1191 Pablo Ocampo Sr. Ext, Makati, Metro Manila.
This event will feature three 2024 Presidential Awardees for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO), who were recently honored by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañan Palace on December 11, 2024.
The masterclass aims to inspire and educate an audience of 200 Mapúa students, educators, faculty members, and participants from other institutions. Through this collaborative effort, the CFO and Mapúa University hope to highlight the global contributions of our Diaspora.

Dr. Jane Y. Gerardo-Abaya (2024 PAFIOO Pamana ng Pilipino Awardee)
A trailblazer in nuclear science and technology, Dr. Abaya has dedicated her career to demystifying scientific concepts for wider accessibility. Her talk, “Demystifying Nuclear Science and Technology,” will showcase how science can serve as a tool for sustainability and progress.
Dr. Melvin J. Sanicas (2024 PAFIOO Pamana ng Pilipino Awardee)
A globally acclaimed physician-scientist, Dr. Sanicas will explore the role of adaptability in his talk, “A Journey in Science and Medicine: Navigating Different Environments and Countries.” Drawing from his experiences across continents, he will highlight innovative solutions to global health challenges.
Dr. Elvy G. Barroso (2024 PAFIOO Banaag Awardee)
An advocate for public health, Dr. Barroso has been at the forefront of combating tuberculosis in the Philippines. Her session, “Fight Against Tuberculosis Among Filipinos: Latent TB Infection Screening and Treatment,” will emphasize the need for collective action against this public health threat.
