The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) met with Dr. Elvy G. Barroso, recipient of the 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO) under the Banaag category to provide updates on the development of the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between her foundation, Fight Against Tuberculosis Among Filipinos Foundation, Inc. (FATBFF) and the Department of Health (DOH).

Represented by the Policy, Planning, and Research Division (PPRD) – PAFIOO Secretariat and the Project Management Division (PMD) – Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Team, the CFO presented the proposed revisions to the MOU, in response to DOH Legal’s recommendations and aligned with FATBFF’s inputs. Once approved by Dr. Barroso, the CFO will facilitate the formal transmission of the revised draft to the DOH for final review and approval.

The discussion likewise covered the endorsement of FATBFF’s tuberculosis (TB) initiatives under LINKAPIL, a flagship CFO program that connects overseas Filipinos and diaspora organizations with local development efforts. Dr. Barroso also requested a separate meeting with the LINKAPIL team once the MOU is finalized and signed to further discuss the rollout of FATBFF’s TB prevention and care initiatives in partnership with the DOH.

This engagement forms part of the CFO’s ongoing diaspora engagement initiatives with the PAFIOO awardees, which aim to strengthen partnerships between overseas Filipinos and government agencies in advancing public health, social welfare, and sustainable community development.
