Representing Principal Mark Gil V. Tabor, Mr. Aldrich Ladan, Head Teacher for Foreign Languages, delivered the opening remarks. He acknowledged MaSciโs commitment to nurturing future scientists and mathematicians, emphasizing the institutionโs gratitude for Dr. Gerardo-Abayaโs dedication to inspiring young minds. The introduction of the esteemed guest speaker was led by Ms. Rosabelle Cacapit, Head Teacher for Science, who commended Dr. Gerardo-Abayaโs remarkable achievements in nuclear science and technology (NST).
Dr. Gerardo-Abayaโs discussed the critical role of STEM education in driving innovation and addressing global challenges. Speaking to the 250 Grade 7-10 MaSciโs aspiring scientists, she emphasized how NST contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 to 3, particularly in combating poverty, ensuring food security, and promoting health. Highlighting NSTโs contributions โfrom farm to table,โ she explained how mutation breeding and irradiation improve agricultural yield and extend the shelf life of food products.
In her presentation, Dr. Gerardo-Abaya addressed the MaSci students as โ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ง๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ช๐ฉ๐ช๐ง๐โ and challenged them to demystify STEM by embracing curiosity and creativity. She emphasized the critical need to spark interest in STEM among the Filipino youth, citing their vital role in driving the countryโs progress and innovation.

The event closed with remarks from Ms. Joahna Lei A. Cabreros, a Science Department teacher, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Gerardo-Abaya and all participants. She reiterated the importance of STEM as a pathway to progress, encouraging students to stay committed to their goals.
