During the courtesy visit, Dr. Fernandez shared with CFO her life as an overseas Filipino who lived and worked in Japan, Singapore, Belgium, and the United States. As a doctor and multi-awarded and highly respected woman healthcare executive, she authored a book entitled “The Expat” where she narrates her challenges and powerful life lessons from living, working, and traveling around the world.

Copies of The Expat book were presented to CFO Secretary Romulo V. Arugay and Undersecretary Valery Joy Brion. The book is now available at the physical stores of Central Books and online, including Amazon.

Dr. Fernandez was accompanied by her husband as well as CFO’s former Executive Director Ms. Jennifer Gonzales during the courtesy visit. Ms. Gonzales served in the CFO from 2005 to 2009. Now affiliated with the Canadian University of Dubai, she was named one of the “Most Influential Filipina in the Gulf” and a recipient of the “Dakilang Bayani” (Noble Hero), conferred by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai.

In 2004, Dr. Fernandez was conferred with the Presidential Pamana ng Pilipino Award in recognition of her excellence in clinical research in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in Japan, and for pioneering new methods in the treatment of ovarian and cervical cancer, and the prevention of Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome as a leading cause of infant mortality.
